While enjoying my winter vocation in Montreal, I spent an afternoon and visited The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Of all the exhibition, Decorative Art and Design and Big Bang were inspirational. Decorative Art and Design presents how work of art revolutionized through seven hundred years from past to present. I was impressed by the change in use of material, the style and the sense of practicality. I see how we keep challenging our creativity to make our life more interesting by adding some edge on things. In Big Bang, En Masse was breathtaking to me. Once I step in En Masse's room, I don't know where to start from because every spot on the wall is covered with drawings. They are all unique and exciting. Eventhough they are drawn in black lines, two dimensional form and colorless, images speak the story and create a connection with audience.

Thanks + Students

Thanks Jewel Envy!
I want to say that I am very proud to have been a part of Jewel Envy for the past two years. When I first arrived at the studio, I didn’t have that much experience aside from my training, so I began at the very beginning… I learned a lot from the many artists who have worked in the studio over the past few years. Thanks Jewel Envy. Happy 5-year anniversary!

Student Exhibition
I haven’t actually taught any student courses, but after seeing students improve their skills and participate in two student exhibitions for two years, I am very impressed and am now motivated to start teaching soon. Everyone has told me that teaching involves so much more than simply teaching students, and that I stand to learn a lot from them myself. I am really looking forward to it.

Happy Little Kilns

Our small kiln is getting a little shelf insert to collect our enamel spills
I seemed to have neglected my blogging duties... I am back in action after a relaxing Holiday spent with family.  My first concern upon returning was taking care of our enameling kilns.  We have some Enamel classes coming up soon so I want them to be in tip top shape for students and of course for myself and other enamelists in the studio.  After searching the internet and making a few calls I came across the Pottery Supply House and their technician Geoff.  Yesterday I dropped the kiln off and in a matter of minutes he had it rewired and back up and running.  After discussing the issue of cleanliness and enameling in a kiln they suggested simply buying extra shelves to collect any mess and prevent ruining the built in bricks.  A very economical choice compared to other options I had researched, and so simple!  Now I'm thinking I should give them a try this afternoon just to make sure they do the trick and to get some work done.      - Alexis
