The Annual Student Exhibition is Back!

Student Exhibition – April 11, 2014

Move done, renos, errrr, sort of done, soooooooo...great news!  After a year off, Jewel Envy will be holding its Annual Student Exhibition.  Opening night will take place April 11, 2014, from 5pm to 9pm.

This exhibition will be opened to any novice jewellers who have ever taken a class at Jewel Envy.
Here are a few stipulations you should know about:
Early bird Submission deadline is Friday February 28th, 2014; fee before this date is $10
Final Submission deadline is Friday, March 28, 2014th; fee $15
Pieces will be on display from April 11, 2014 to April 30, 2014.
There is an early entrance fee of $10 per artist, $15 per artist for those who register after the March 28th deadline.

Anyone interested can submit up to three (3) pieces; however the show will be juried this year.  Don’t worry, everyone will have at least one (1) piece in the show!

This year’s show will be limited to artists who have not received ‘professional’ training, meaning received training in full-time day programs from schools like George Brown College, OCADU, etc.

Pieces will be judged by two judges; a special guest judge and our lovely Gillian Batcher.  Winner will receive two days of studio use.

There will also be a People’s Choice Award.  Winner will receive three hours of private instruction with one of our instructors.

Special Note:  As an added incentive, for those of you who submit pieces by the February 28, 2014 deadline, your piece could end up on a post card for the event!

Rules and Application form can be found here http://jewelenvy.blogspot.ca/p/students-exhibtion-contract2.html.
If you need any more information, please write exhibition@jewelenvy.ca or info@jewelenvy.ca

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014:

Where the rich and famous come to show off their hot bodies, gorgeous dresses and (what we are all really here for) JEWELLERY.

Well after I saw that we gave the Golden Globes and all those bling wearing celebs a little attention I thought I would follow suit with a few of my faves from the recent Screen Actors Guild awards. Pretty no?

Julia! Those are some cool earrings girl!
Anne Hathaway and a fountain of diamonds and rubies.

Naomi Watts and some seriously gorgeous jewels.

Blue eyes, blue dress and one crazy cool blue necklace!

Slightly Late Golden Globes 2014 Favourites

So, last Sunday was the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards for television and film. I've been watching this awards show and The Oscars since I was 12. Half for the movies and tv shows and half for the fashion, ooooobviously. Here are my favourites from the red carpet this year.
Sofia Vergara's turquoise statement necklace by Lorraine Schwartz was my favourite piece. Followed closely by Jennifer Lawrence's emerald and diamond earrings by Neil Lane. She won best supporting actress that night for American Hustle. Too bad her diamond bracelet didn't have some of that support as it went flying off during an interview with Ryan Seacrest! YouTube it! She's alarmingly cool about it, as usual...
Best overall is my homegirl Cate Blanchett who never ever fails to amaze me, this time in Armani and Chopard diamonds. She also won for her work in Blue Jasmine

Then I turned into a giddy school girl when my husband, Leonardo Dicaprio won for best actor for The Wolf of Wall Street. My 12 year old crush on Leo was the reason I started watching these awards shows in the first place. (The year Titanic came out...did I just date myself? Oh dear) Congrats darling! Maybe we'll get that Oscar this year! You were robbed for your work in The Aviator!
